May Recap

Image
Well, it's now the end of May, and that just seems insane to me. Why are the months going by so fast?  Book I Read in May Movies/TV Shows I Watched in May Events of May -I worked on my WIP more. I think it's going pretty well. -I got to go out to eat at a restaurant for the first time in, well, a really long time.  -It was my blogoversary this month!  -Normal hobbies.  -Fandom stuff, per usual.  I introduced my family to Julie and the Phantoms, and am now obsessed with One Day at a Time. Feel free to squeal with me about it in the comments.  -I helped out with some of my parents' work.  -That's pretty much all. It was a pretty quiet month. So, how was your May? Did you do anything exciting or fun? Have you seen One Day at a Time?

Character of the Day: Buffy Summers

Image
'Ello! I'm here to do one of my favorite things.......talk about fictional characters that I love.  I'm starting off with the titular heroine of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Spoilers ahead.  Brief Facts Buffy Summers is the main character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She's the Slayer, which means it's her destiny to slay vampires, demons and the forces of darkness. She's sort of the leader of the Scooby Gang in the first five seasons, and then fully becomes the leader in Season Six.  Oh, and she died twice.  Why I Like Her: I feel like Buffy doesn't always get the recognition she deserves. Sure, in Season Six.....she's a bit of a mess [but who isn't? It's Season Six], and I couldn't stand her in Season Seven, but, for the first five seasons, she was one of my favorite characters. And she's a great character, so let's dive a little deeper, and start talking about why I like her. She's A Great Example of The Chosen One Done Right The C...

Things I Love In Stories

Image
Do you remember when I made my rant post about my least favorite tropes?  So, here is a list of my favorite storytelling elements/tropes/whatever. Not in order, just FYI. Slow-Burn Romances Ah, slow-burn romances! There's something magical about two characters who very obviously have feelings for each other, yet one or both of them are completely clueless about them, and/or they think the other will never reciprocate their feelings. Sure, this can get annoying if things get drawn out for too long, but, most of the time, it's pretty great. And when they finally kiss?  Greatest. Thing. Ever. Well-Written Sibling Relationships I love siblings stories and, especially, sister stories [like Little Women]. It just makes a really interesting dynamic, because while siblings love each other very much [most of the time], they can also annoy each other a lot , which can be fun to read [and also realistic, at least for me]. Any Type of Retelling I know they've been done a lot, but I ...

The Glee Book Tag

Image
I actually haven't done very many book tags, which is a tragedy because I feel like I don't talk about my favorite books enough. Or maybe I do, and you all are tired of hearing me talk about my favorites, which I'm going to do some more, haha.  So, I'm a massive Gleek.  *sarcastic gasps* ''What, McKayla, you're a fan of this weird little musical dramedy? It's not like you talk about it ALL THE FREAKING TIME.'' So, I was wondering if Glee book tags existed, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that one did! I found this tag on  Lauren's  blog, and I have no idea who created it [but whoever it was, kudos to them because the questions are awesome]. So, let's go ahead, and get this thing started. Rachel Berry: A Book You Read To Be An Overachiever in Your Fandom I can't think of any, really. I read for fun, for the most part. Maybe the Buffy comics? I haven't read very many of them yet, and it wasn't really done for the pur...
