Episode-by-Episode Review of Lucifer Season One
Hi. How’re you doing?
Anyway, here’s the episode-by-episode review of Lucifer Season One. It’s an American crime/comedy/drama/fantasy show, and is on Netflix. It was created by Tom Kapinos, and stars Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D.B Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Rachael Harris, Scarlett Estevez, Tricia Helfer, and Aimee Garcia.
Oh, and btw I’ll do one for OUAT, too but I finished the first season longer ago, and there are more episodes. Let’s get started, hmm?
Episode One: Pilot
Lucifer Morningstar is bored with being the Lord of Hell, so he takes a vacation to L.A. When a friend of his is murdered he joins forces with the good side of the law to bring the killer to justice.
My Thoughts: I thought it was a great start to the show. Most pilots aren’t as good as the rest of the show but this was pretty good. I think the cast is excellent, and it kept me watching. The murder plot was done pretty well, and it set the tone for the rest of the show.
Final Rating: 7.2 stars
Episode Two: Lucifer, Stay. Good Devil.
When a movie star’s son is killed after being chased by the paparazzi, Chloe takes a deep look into the case with a little help from Lucifer. Meanwhile, Maze and Amenadiel continue to encourage Lucifer to go back to Hell.
My Thoughts: Again, a solid episode with a solid amount of humour. My personal favorite part was when Lucifer smoked the drugs which were evidence at a crime scene. Also, it was nice getting to know a little more about Chloe, since she is such an interesting character. The murder itself was very interesting. However, many side-characters don’t really have much of a role. Dan [or Detective Douche, according to Lucifer] is kind of flat. Same with Linda, and Amenadiel. Trixie is cute, however, and while Maze isn’t flat she is still just Lucifer’s sexy, kick-butt sidekick at this point. Still, very good.
Final Rating: 7.0 stars
Episode Three: The Would-Be Prince of Darkness
An up-and-coming quarterback calls Lucifer after finding a corpse in his pool: Lucifer asks Chloe to help investigate which leads them into the world of big-money sports.
My Thoughts: While solid, it was obviously the weakest episode of the show to me. Just a little flat. The fact that someone is pretending to be Lucifer has some hilarious results, and Lucifer’s overconfidence mixed with Chloe’s practicality has some funny parts, too. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned how Chloe Decker is exactly the kind of person you’d want to actually solve a murder.
Final Rating: 6.8 stars
Episode Four: Manly Whatnots
In an effort to get over his infatuation with Chloe, Lucifer decides he must seduce her.
Meanwhile, the two teamed up on a missing girl case, and Amenadiel confronts Maze about his concerns with Lucifer.
My Thoughts: The murder is the best so far, and it has a neat twist to it. Lauren German and Tom Ellis have excellent chemistry. Lucifer got a little more character development, and his attempts to seduce a completely uninterested Chloe go hilariously wrong. Also, the first fight scene is in this episode, and it’s very well done. And this is totally random but did anyone else notice that Lesley-Ann Brandt has a very long tongue?
Final Rating: 7.8 stars
Episode Five: Sweet Kicks
When Lucifer is attending a fashion show, a girl gets murdered. He then volunteers to help Detective Decker solve the homicide. Maze helps Amenadiel behind Lucifer’s back.
My Thoughts: Again, there is some truly delightful humour, such as this lovely exchange:
Lucifer Morningstar: Uh, Detective, you seem to have left on the central locking!
Chloe Decker: Act like a child, get treated like a child.
Lucifer Morningstar: Wha-? Isn’t it illegal to leave your child locked in a car?
So, yeah, it’s funny, and the crime was good, but y’know I’m a bit of a sucker for episodes regarding gang wars, shoes, and leather-clad, heel-wearing ninja demon bartenders beating up a bunch of people. This episode had all of these. Actually, one of my favorites.
Oh, and besides running his nightclub, Lux, Lucifer got a job working for the LAPD as an ‘Official Civilian Consultant’
And also I was so happy to see more with Maze. I mean her ninja abilities, and amazing looks have been shown before, but we get to see a little bit of her more…..human side, for lack of a better word. She’s felt betrayed by Lucifer. I was sort of getting ‘she loves him’ vibes from this episode. Also, we see her demon face, which is half-deformed [it’s less gross then it sounds].
Final Rating: 8.3 stars
Episode Six: Favorite Son
A robbery gone wrong leads to Lucifer and Chloe working together. Dan has an unusual encounter with Mazikeen. Chloe suspects Lucifer might be a criminal. Linda decides to play Lucifer’s game.
My Thoughts: I totally forgot how good this episode was! It revolves around Lucifer’s wings, which he cut off [well, technically, Maze did but he ordered her to] getting stolen, and Chloe thinking the thing of Lucifer’s that got stolen was illegal. And Maze’s encounter with Dan is great. Basically, he asked for the club’s records, and she beat him up, and dropped him off, naked, at Chloe’s house so that they could have sex, get back together, and Chloe would be out of Lucifer’s life. Yes, that’s Maze’s logic.
The crime itself is good, though it’s the characters that drive it forward. And the comedy.
And Linda decides to go along with Lucifer saying that he’s the Devil. Linda’s never been my favorite, and I don’t think she ever will be. Still a great episode.
Final Rating: 8.3 stars
Episode Seven: Wingman
Lucifer gets help from an unlikely source while trying to find the content of his container. Chloe discovers a vital clue.
My Thoughts: Solid episode. And seeing more of Amenadiel is always fun. He’s growing on me a little. And Chloe and Lucifer’s interactions are great, and natural-seeming. Dan continues to be, well, Dan, but other than that the episode was great. Plus, it gives an explanation why all the other cops hate Chloe so much. The special effects were GREAT. While not my favorite, it certainly wasn’t my least favorite.
Final Rating: 7.9 stars
Episode Eight: Et Tu, Doctor?
[See? I told you Lesley-Ann Brandt is gorgeous]
The murder of a therapist prompts Lucifer to enlist the help of Dr. Linda to find a suspect.
My Thoughts: My second favorite episode of the entire first season. The comedy is timed perfectly, the crime is great, the characters are great…...it’s just great.
Lucifer, as always, has some clever lines: ‘’Speak of the Me’’, and ‘’Here comes the douchemobile’’ are the best. Chloe and Dan start getting along better, making Lucifer extremely jealous. And how he made a group therapy session all about himself, the one thing that is important [according to him] was great, too. The crime was done well, and Chloe meeting Linda again was pretty cool. I wish Maze and Amenadiel were in this episode more, though. Also, the comedy was perfectly timed. Again. This is probably the funniest episode in this season [and they’re all funny, so…….].
Rating: 9.4 stars
Episode Nine: A Priest Walks into a Bar
A priest seeks out Lucifer’s help when he suspects an underground drug operation has set up shop in a neighborhood youth center. Meanwhile, Malcolm manipulates a way to keep an eye on Dan.
My Thoughts: Okay, so maybe this is my second favorite episode? I don’t know, but it was good. From Lucifer searching for a crime to blame on the priest to speaking to a woman through a confession box, and telling her to cheat on her husband, it was an average day to Lucifer Morningstar. Until he started to actually like the priest. Actually, the priest was very likeable. And I think this is the episode where Lucifer finds out Maze is going behind his back. Oh, wait, it’s the episode before this, Anyway, it was REALLY great, and if you are sensitive, you will cry at the ending.
Final Rating: 9.5 stars
Episode Ten: Pops
Lucifer and Chloe suspect a restaurateur’s son played a part in his death. The return of Chloe’s mother sends her life into an upheaval.
My Thoughts: Another great episode. Lucifer was grieving the chef’s death, because of his excellent food. Chloe’s mother, Penelope, fit right in, and created some interesting chaos. Trixie continues to be adorable, and Maze gets some more character development. And she makes friends [Trixie and Linda]. I think Dan got some more character development in this episode, too. And Lucifer inviting himself and a murder suspect to dinner with Chloe, Dan, Penelope, and Trixie was done very well. It was a great episode, and I loved it. And also we see that Lucifer may not actually be such a bad guy.
Final Rating: 9.3 stars
Episode Eleven: St. Lucifer
When philanthropist Tim Dunlear is found dead, Lucifer explores his good side by becoming a benefactor for Tim’s glitzy Los Angeles charity.
My Thoughts: Okay, honestly, what stands out to me in this episode is Lucifer trying to be a good person. He sort of, well, has….interesting methods.
Example: A homeless man said Tim Dunlear was so nice he would have given someone the shirt off of his back. Lucifer’s response is to take off all of his clothes [and shoes] and give them to that man. Anyway, the crime was good, and Maze and Lucifer made up so all’s well that ends well, I guess. Again, another good episode [honestly is there a Lucifer episode that isn’t?]. Also, I remember something happened with Dan but i don’t remember what it is. And I just watched this episode last week so that’s kinda frustrating.
Final Rating: 8.5 stars
Episode Twelve: #TeamLucifer
The team investigates the death of a woman whose body with a ‘’Hail Lucifer’’ message was found lying in a pentagram.
My Thoughts: This episode pretty much focused on cults, which can be kind of dark, but I thought the plot was good. Cult episodes tend to be kinda stereotypical but this one wasn’t. Also for those of you who are easily scared this episode is not scary or creepy at all. Lucifer is not a horror show. It’s fantasy/supernatural/paranormal, but it isn’t horror. It wasn’t my favorite but it was pretty good. And it ended in a HUGE cliffhanger. I mean, thank goodness it’s on Netflix, right?
Final Rating: 7.5 stars
Episode Thirteen: Take Me Back to Hell
When Lucifer is framed for murder, he and Chloe must work together to clear his name, and prove the identity of the true killer.
My Thoughts: Best episode of the first season! I loved seeing Lucifer and Amenadiel work together again. It was cool. And Chloe working with Maze was cool, too. Dan, Maze, and Amenadiel get so much character development, which I love. The humour [as always] was great, and it had an intriguing plot that kept me anxiously waiting to watch Season Two. It was a good finale, and the cast just works so well off of each other.
And it seems like Maze kind of cares about Amenadiel….but it’s really very hard to tell. Can she just be a little more obvious about her feelings? I mean, I get that she’s not really very well in tune with her feelings, and she is a demon, but…..
Dialogue is great, as always, such as this:
Lucifer Morningstar: [in an American accent] Detective Decker, step away from your vehicle. Put your hands in the air, and walk towards me peacefully. If you do not-I repeat-if you do not, we will have no choice but to shoot you with our new Bazooka. We’ve actually been waiting months and months to use it, so, on second thought, please speed away.
My only complaint is that I still don’t really like or care about Linda. I don’t like Dan, either, but I can appreciate him. Linda, I just don’t like. I guess Trixie hasn’t gotten a ton of development, either, but she’s cute, sweet, and funny so….
Final Rating: 9.8 stars
Favorite Episode: Take Me Back to Hell
Runners Up: A Priest Walks Into a Bar, Pops, Et Tu, Doctor?, Sweet Kicks, Favorite Son

I don’t think there were any bad ones, some just weren’t as good.
Alright, it’s a wrap!
