Pride Month Recommendations

Image
Hi everyone! Since it's Pride Month, I decided I wanted to do a recommendations list, like I did last year.  So, let's get into it. #1: Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of the Universe This book is a coming-of-age book set in the '80s about a teenage boy named Aristotle and his friendship with a boy named Dante. This book is one of my favorites. It's very well-written and almost....poetic. I love both of the main characters and their friendship. There's a lot of hype around this one and I think it wholly deserves it. Also, Lin Manuel Miranda narrates the audiobook, so you should definitely listen to the audiobook.  #2: Rebel Robin Rebel Robin is a prequel set during Will's disappearance, focusing on Robin's story. For a TV-based book with no supernatural elements, I thought it was pretty good. I think A.R Carpetta does a great job writing Robin. She's such an interesting character, and I loved getting to read her perspective and getting to know h

Tips For Writing LGBTQ+ Characters

Greetings! I've been wanting to do another post about diversity in fiction since I did my post on how to write female characters in fiction back in March 2021. Diversity is a pretty broad topic, and the tropes/assumptions about someone who's gay are going to be different from the tropes/assumptions about someone who's chronically ill, for example.  So, being a queer person myself, I chose to focus on how LGBTQ+ characters are written and represented in media first and maybe offer some tips. Disclaimer: These are my personal views on this topic. No offense is meant if you disagree with me in any way. We all are entitled to our opinions.  How Important Is LGBTQ+ Representation? Seeing a character who identifies as queer may help you figure out your own gender or sexual/romantic orientation, or it might help you with your confidence in your identity.  I couldn't remember seeing LGBTQ+ characters in any of the movies/shows I watched or the books I read until I was maybe 13

10 Fictional Characters Whose Sense of Style I Adore

Hello!  So, lately, I've been really interested in doing fashion posts lately, and I thought it would be fun for you to see the top ten characters who's wardrobes I would raid.  #1: Brittany, Glee My favorite thing about Brittany is how she can wear the most random things and make them look good. Some of her outfits are a little too out there, even for me, but I love her kind of quirky, cutesy sense of style.  #2: Jules, Euphoria So, tiny confession here: I have never actually seen Euphoria. Still, I adore most of the Euphoria fashion, especially everything Jules wears. I love all the bright colors, unique makeup and outfit combinations, and her kind of girly-meets-edgy style. Also, a lot of her outfits are very anime-inspired, which I think is very cool.  #3: Hanna, Pretty Little Liars Truth be told, the styling on PLL is kind of a mixed bag. Some of the outfits are amazing, others are terrible. I think that Hanna's style was my favorite, though [especially in Season One
