The Hogwarts Tag

Image
Greetings, witches and wizards! After having a Harry Potter marathon a little while ago, I've felt like making a post on it, which brings us to this tag.  I stole this from  Olivia , in case you were wondering. Let's just get started [expect lots of fangirling and GIFs]. Are you a pureblood, a halfblood, or Muggle-born? I am a pureblood! Both of my parents are Harry Potter fans, and read the books and saw the movies before I did. In fact, my dad read me the first Harry Potter book when I was six.  Just, er, be sure to associate my family with the Weasleys instead of the Malfoys, okay? Which wand chose you? According to an online quiz, the one that chose me is 7 inch Cherry Wood with a Phoenix feather core.  It says I'm destined for greatness, which would be very cool.  Would you take a cat, an owl, or toad with you? Being an animal lover, I would probably take all three, and then get overwhelmed taking care of all of them, XD.  If I could only pick one, though, I'd pic

Movie Review: Austenland

Image
Hello, there! It feels like forever since I've done a review. As I've mentioned before, I haven't seen a whole lot of romance movies [though I'd like to see more. I've loved the ones I've seen. If you have recommendations, comment them below], but I thought I'd share a review of one I have seen.  This is my second post for Cordy's  Lovely Blog Party , by the way. Austenland was written and directed by Jerusha Hess, and stars Keri Russell, JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie, Jennifer Coolidge, James Callis, Georgia King, Ricky Whittle, Rupert Vansittart and Jane Seymour. It was based on the book by Shannon Hale.  Summary: Obsessed with Pride and Prejudice, a woman travels to a Jane Austen theme park in search for her own Mr. Darcy.  My Thoughts: If you're a Jane Austen fan, this movie is for you. The main character [Jane] basically gets to experience living in the Regency era, which is very interesting to watch. I'd also recommend it if you want to watch so

Awards Part 2

Hey, look, I'm doing this in a reasonable amount of time. *jazz hands* Yayyyyyyyyy.  So, in my last post, I mentioned that I had some more tags to catch up on, so here they are. First,  Ivy  nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award.  Thank you so much, Ivy! The Rules Thank the blogger who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog Her Questions What book would you want to bring to life? I think the Harry Potter books. How cool would it be to go to Hogwarts? And to live in a world full of magic? Except I'd want to find a way to turn back time so that I could be eleven again, and get to go to Hogwarts. Are you more of an indoors or outdoors person? As with lots of things, it really depends. I wouldn't want to watch TV outside, for example. However

Awards Part 1

Hi, everybody! So, back in January, I stole [and stole with permission] a couple tags that looked interesting. Later,  Skye  and  Ivy  each tagged me, then I found out about the whole February is Fantasy Month thing, and wanted to fill out that tag, so things got a little out of control. Today I'll just be filling out the three original tags I stole.  So, this first one I stole from  Nicole's blog. The Rules Thank the person who nominated you [thanks, Nicole!].  Answer the questions Ping back to the creator  Ellyn Nominate 5+ bloggers to do the tags The Questions Why did you start blogging, and why have you kept blogging? Well. This is a long story. So, a few years ago, I got interested in doll blogging [which is when you take pictures of dolls and make stories about them. It's hard to explain], and I wanted a doll blog. Later on, I decided I wanted a personal blog, too. It took awhile to get started, but I officially began both blogs on May 12th 2019. Over time, I realiz

5 Essential Things For A Shippable Romance [In My Opinion]

Image
Hey, everyone! If you don't mind me asking, how has your Valentine's Day been so far? Mine's been awesome. My family and I have been having a Harry Potter movie marathon with lots of snacks [including butterbeer! Which is amazing], so it's been lots of fun. Today's post isn't necessarily tips for writing good, solid, shippable romantic relationships. Instead it's five things that need to happen for me to ship a couple. I think. #1: It Needs Good Dialogue Yes, that's right. To me, dialogue is really important for pretty much every aspect of a book/movie/show/musical/etc, but especially for romances.  For example, a couple with plenty of witty/snarky banter can be lots of fun, because, hey, maybe they aren't super sappy. Maybe they express their love in a different way than the norm. And that's great.....until it starts to sound like they hate each other. There is definitely a difference between playful snark and mean snark, except it seems like s

Book Review: A Tyranny of Petticoats

Image
Hello, all. I recently finished reading a really great anthology called A Tyranny of Petticoats [well, okay, the full title is A Tyranny of Petticoats: 15 Tales of Belles, Bank Robbers, and Other Badass Girls, but that's kind of long, don't you think?]. So, here's a review. I'll be doing reviews for each story, so I'll try and keep my thoughts brief. I don't read a whole lot of short stories, so my only complaint for most of these was 'It needed to be longer.' What I appreciated most about this book was the variety. The stories range from exciting bank-robbing adventures to slower romantic  dramas. There's even some fantasy in some of them! The heroines are all so diverse, too. Some are white, some are Native American, some are black, some are Asian, etc. There's even some LGBTQ representation in here. Now, onto the stories. Mother Carey's Tale by J. Anderson Coats 2.5/5 stars This story gave me Pirates of the Caribbean vibes, which I loved.

Lovely Blog Party Tag

Image
Hello. As you may know by now, Cordy at  Any Merry Little Thought  is hosting a Lovely Blog Party throughout the month of February.  So, I decided to fill out the tag today. I haven't quite decided what other posts I'll be doing, but I'll definitely do more. The Questions Would you ever go for a walk in the pouring rain to avoid the company of a gentlemen caller? Probably, although it depends on who he is. I would absolutely go for a walk in the rain to avoid the company of someone I find annoying.  I do like rain, though, so I might do it under any circumstances. Would you ever, truly, try your hand at matchmaking? Erm, maybe? I wouldn't try matching two people who'd never met, but if these two people already knew and seemed to have feelings for each other then I might do just a teeny bit of meddling. So, under the right circumstances, yes.  Although, I don't have much experience with matchmaking, so who knows how it'd turn out? Would you be comfortable we
