Three Dark Crowns Book Review + December Goals

Hey, cinnamon rolls!
I needed something to call you guys. Just roll with it.
Anyway, today I will be reviewing the book Three Dark Crowns.
Author: Kendare Blake
Genres: Young Adult/Fantasy
Page Count: 432
Summary: In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born-three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each posesser of a coveted magic.
Mirabella, is a fierce elemental who can spark wind or flames at the snap of her fingers.
Katherine can ingest the deadliest poisons, and brew equally deadly ones.
Arsinoe is a naturalist and can tame wild animals, and plants.
In the end only one can be queen. The other two must die. The real question remains….
Who will be queen?
My Thoughts: It was one of those books that I couldn’t put down. Well, technically, I did put it down, and forgot about it entirely for awhile…..and then started reading it and couldn’t stop again.
The plot was intriguing, and had several shocking twists. I mean, that cliffhanger at the end. I think my mind exploded [don’t worry, it does that a lot].
I thought a few of the side-characters were rather flat but the main characters were all so well done and complex. This book also had excellent world-building.
Of the main girls I liked Mirabella the least to start with, and Katherine the most but as the story went on I ended up liking Mirabella best, and Katherine least [don’t worry, Kat, I still like you]. Sorry, Arsinoe, you’re always in the middle.
It felt very different from most YA books, but it didn’t exactly feel like a middle-grade book either. Actually, the writing style made it feel like a very tame adult book.
Kendare Blake has a great way with words.
Now, this book barely had any swearing [one swear word I think], and two scenes with sexual content [not graphic at all]. It was also a little violent and intense at certain parts due to the girls having to find ways to kill each other.
So maybe 13-14+? It really depends on what you’re personally comfortable with.
I would rate it as a 5 star book.
Something else that you should be aware of is that this is the first book in the series. And ends in a cliffhanger. So maybe check the first two out from the library?
It was a good book, regardless.
Now for my December goals…..
-Memorize the lyrics to every Taylor Swift song
So far I’ve memorized 38…...which means I have a lot left
-Post more video on Tales of a Triple Threat
I post a lot of videos on Crazy Country Dolls but I haven’t been very active on my personal blog….that needs to change
-Try a new hobby
Idk what, you can give me suggestions in the comments
-Actually make good new year’s resolutions
I always forget mine halfway through the month of January
-Practice a lot for the Christmas show
Yes, I’m in a Christmas show. A Christmas show starring just me and my sisters but still…..
I’m actually hoping my parents will let me post it. It involves a group dance, a play, and singing.
-Watch A Movie I’ve Never Seen
Look, I love Christmas movies but I kinda want to see something new
-Make Christmas Presents for Everyone
I’m sort of freaking out because I haven’t even started yet?????
Anyway, excuse me while I do that.
Did you enjoy this post? Do you like Three Dark Crowns?
What did you think of my goals?
