Movie Review: Beetlejuice

Hello. Last night, I watched Beetlejuice for the first time, and decided to make a blog post about it, so you can hear my thoughts about it [the good and the bad]. Let's get started, shall we?

Beetlejuice was directed by Tim Burton, and stars Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, and Jeffrey Jones. 

Summary: Adam and Barbara Maitland thought their lives couldn't possibly be worse. They're dead, and stuck inside their house, and no one can see them. Then, one day, a family with two incredibly annoying parents, and their strange daughter move in, and Adam and Barbara turn to Beetlejuice, an insane and malicious creature to help drive them out.

My Thoughts: If you want to watch this movie, now would be the perfect time to do it, since it's October, and, while Beetlejuice isn't exactly a Halloween move, it has a gothic vibe, kind of like The Addams Family [another great movie that you should definitely watch].

What I Liked: 

-The weirdness. Beetlejuice is a very, very strange movie, and I think that was part of what made me like it so much. If you don't like weird or confusing movies, then don't watch this one, but if that's part of the appeal for you, then you'd probably love it. 

-The humor. If you want to see something funny, watch Beetlejuice. I laughed a lot watching it. There were also a lot of funny quotes, and I can see myself quoting this a lot [not as much as, say, Mean Girls, but what movie is more quotable than Mean Girls?].

-The cast. This was one of those movies where I thought, ''Wow, they did a really great job casting it. Everybody fits their role so perfectly.'' I mean, there is a musical, and the cast there is really good, too, but the original cast is just iconic [don't worry, Sophie-Anne Caruso, I still think you're amazing].

-The characters. I loved the majority of them. Adam and Barbara were really sweet, Beetlejuice was hilarious and totally stole the show, and Lydia was really cool in a unique way. 

I think this might be the first movie I've seen Winona Ryder in [technically, I saw her in Star Trek, when she played Spock's mom, but that was only one scene, so it barely counts]. She was really good, though. I liked her, and I really liked her character [I may be slightly biased because I sing Lydia's part in the Beetlejuice songs that my sisters and I are doing]. 

-It was entertaining, and interesting. So, there are some movies that I think are good, but they just don't keep me entertained the whole time. Beetlejuice did. It kept my focus the whole time [and, believe me, that's hard to do].

What I Didn't Like

-Okay, so the timing was kind of weird for some of this movie. I think the intro dragged on a little too much, and they could've gotten started on the main plot a bit faster. I also felt like some parts at the ending were really rushed, and needed a bit more time. I think that was the main problem with this movie. It didn't really hinder my enjoyment of the movie, but that was the major flaw this movie had. I'm sure there were others, but it wasn't anything bad, or anything that really bothered me.

-Also, even though Beetlejuice is the titular character, he's not in it a whole lot. It wasn't necessarily bad....but I liked him, and I wanted to see more of him. Also, more Lydia. Because Lydia is amazing.

Overall, I really liked Beetlejuice, and I'm glad I saw it. I would recommend it if you like strange movies, or are just looking for something to watch. It's definitely something I would watch again, though not the day after I saw it [which is definitely something I've been known to do]. I'll say it again, if you want to watch it, there's no better time.
