Battlestar Galactica Miniseries Review

Hello. So as some of you may or may not know, Syfy aired all four seasons of BSG and the miniseries sometime in April [can you tell I was crazy excited?].
Anyway, I recently rewatched the miniseries with my sister because we taped the entire thing, so, um, yeah.
Genres: Action, Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi
Cast: Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Callum Keith Rennie, Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas, Matthew Bennet, Paul Campbell, Tahmoh Penikett, Nicki Clyne Alessandro Juliani, Kandyse McClure, and Connor Widdows
Director: Michael Rhymer
Writers: Glen A. Larson, Ronald D. More
Rating: TV-14
Summary: After a forty-year armistice in the war between the Twelve Colonies and the Cylons, the latter group launches a surprise attack with a goal of exterminating the human race, wiping out nearly everyone in the Twelve Colonies, leaving only a ragtag crew to lead the war to defeat the Cylons.
-Summary taken from Google
My Thoughts: So, yes, I'm definitely biased since this is my favorite show, but everything is just so great about it. The worldbuilding, the characters, the props and scenery, the script, the action scenes, the music, the cast. It manages to be both deep and entertaining, which is definitely a hard balance.
It's quite long [3 and a half hours] but it's definitely worth a watch.
It really does make you think [especially about humanity]. BSG has this special......I don't know, charm, I guess? Maybe I'm rating it too highly, but I really love this show.
Characters
For the sake of time, I'll just be doing the main characters.
Commander William Adama
Adama is the commander of Galactica, the last battlestar, which was intended to be used as a museum [until the Cylon attack]. He fought in the first Cylon war, and is a bit old-fashioned. He has a very gruff demeanor, but it's clear he really cares about his crew, and is a good leader.
He's never been my all-time favorite, but I definitely appreciate what a good character he is [and he has a really cool voice].
President Laura Roslin
Laura Roslin definitely wasn't expecting to be president. She was a teacher, actually, and was 43rd in line [or 45th....something like that]. She is normally very quiet and polite, but can be quite stern, especially when someone disobeys her orders. She's trying to be the best leader she can [especially since she doesn't have long, due to cancer]. Roslin, again, has never been my all-time favorite, but her character is just amazing. It's not very often that we see a character quite like her.
Lieutenant Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace
Ah, Starbuck. One of the most liked characters [and, originally, one of the most disliked, due to her character having originally been male]. She's very impulsive and reckless, and has a very bad temper, and never hesitates to get into a fight. She is an exceptionally good pilot, and Commander Adama has a soft spot for her. She's a bit of a wild card, which is part of what makes her cool. Heck, she practically exudes coolness, though she does have some....issues, which makes her just as complex as the other characters.
Lee 'Apollo' Adama
Commander Adama's son, who is also a fighter pilot. Apollo is kind of the normal guy, He's very mad at his father, due to the fact that his younger brother [and Starbuck's fiance] was killed in a crash, because he wasn't a very good Viper pilot. Lee blames his dad.
He also seems to get along well with President Roslin.
Honestly, he just annoyed me for most of the miniseries, though he does get better as the show goes on.
Dr. Gaius Baltar
An extremely talented scientist, definitely a genius, possibly one of the world's greatest minds......and he knows it. Gaius is extremely selfish and narcissistic. He's also quite popular with the ladies, and seems to have a new girlfriend a lot. Despite him being extremely flawed, Gaius is one of my favorite characters, simply because he's so well written and well acted [he's also one of my sister's favorites, but that's because she thinks he's funny].
Number Six
The first known humanoid Cylon, who did cause the explosions, through seducing Gaius [and yet he still cheats on her]. She doesn't get much character development in the miniseries (or pretty much until Season Two), though Tricia Helfer plays her to perfection. She's incredibly attractive, though Six is highly intelligent and very physically strong.
Also, it felt like her being hot actually served a point in the plot, it wasn't just for the sake of viewers. And, well, that hasn't been done very much. She's sexy, but she's also a good character.
Have I mentioned she's very pretty? I mean, I find about 85% of the female BSG cast highly attractive, so.......

Sharon 'Boomer' Valerii
A naive, sweet pilot. Boomer is kinda the token nice character, though that doesn't detract from her being cool. She's a good pilot, and is a decent mechanic. She's definitely sweet, but doesn't fall into the 'sweet and shy' territory. In fact, she has a pretty wicked sharp tongue [not that she uses it much].
Content: I ususally don't do content advisories, but a lot of my blog readers are very sensitive to that sort of thing [I'm not at all, but it really depends on the person].
There's a fair number of swear words [nothing more than most shows], but the violence is kinda, um, intense.  A character snaps a baby's neck [offscreen, but you can hear the snap], there's space battles and fight scenes, pretty typical for a sci-fi movie.
There's also some kissing, and two characters have sex onscreen [no nudity], although you do see the man shirtless, and the woman's back. Said female character also wears skimpy outfits throughout the whole thing.
