I Give You Sexy Corn: My Thoughts on Mean Girls: The Musical

Hello, all. Today I'm going to be reviewing the Mean Girls musical. Now, I haven't seen the movie or the musical, so I don't really know much about the plot, but I love the songs. I first listened to this in May 2019 [I think], and the songs have always stuck with me. I went through another huge Mean Girls phase in February and March of this year. So, today, I'll be reviewing each of the songs. It's a very different way then how I usually would, so let me know if you like it.

''A Cautionary Tale''
-The music at the beginning is amazing
''It's a cautionary tale based on actually events where people died''......oh, Janis, I love you already
-Also her voice is absolutely incredible.
-Ok, so this musical is about mean, popular girls? Pretty straightforward
-I really like this song a lot
-''This is a cautionary tale about corruption and betrayal and getting hit by a bus''. Wow, Damien's already hilarious.
-Janis has some killer insults.
-Wow, Broadway actors are ridiculously talented.
-I loooooooved this song.
''It Roars''
-Again, the music at the beginning is great.
-Erika Henningsen has a cute voice.
-So, basically, Cady lives in Africa, and is homeschooled.
-Wow, this girl is is really naive.
-This song reminds me of a Disney song.
''It roooooooars'' Wow, she sang that so well.
-Wait, does she not know what a phone is?
-''Hi, teens.''
''New kid, ignore them.''
-The way they all just shout ''No!'' is hilarious.
-I like Cady. She seems sweet.
-The end music is great.
-I loved this song, too.
''Where Do You Belong''
-Oooh, yay, a Damien song
-''Your mother called you baby girl?'' Why does it sound so cute when Barrett says it?
-''So what if all the ducklings think you're ugly? It's 'cause they've never seen a swan'' is actually an amazing message.
-So, this song is about cliques in a cafeteria.
-''Sexually active band geeks'' is an actual clique in this school?
-This song has a HUGE Broadway feel.
-So Cady wants to join the math geeks, but it's ''social suicide.''
-Damien reminds me of Kurt from Glee.
-Just for the record, I'd sit with Janis and Damien.
-The way Barrett sings believers is amazing.
-Her 'yay' reminds me of April Ludgate.
-This song was good, but I didn't like it as much.
''Meet the Plastics''
-Ooh, nice, introducing the mean girls.
-Wow, they scared away a teacher.
-''My name is Regina George, and I am a massive deal.'' Well, she's not all sunshine and rainbows, that's for sure.
-The music just sounds so evil.
-''I am, like, drunk with power.''
-Taylor Louderman is so amazing.
-Gretchen sounds super chaotic.
-''Her hair is full of secrets.''
-Gretchen seems very nervous.
-Karen Smith put a d in the word orange.
-''My name is Karen. My hair is shiny, my teeth are perfect.''
-''My name is Karen, I may not be smart......that's it.''
-I love when the Plastics are harmonizing.
-''On Wednesdays we wear pink.''
-Ooh, I love when they're all singing at once.
-Come sit with us tomorrow, it'll be fetch.''
-Needless to say, I love this one. It may be my favorite so far.
''Stupid With Love''
-''When I was five, I fell in love. It didn't last. He ran from me. Literally ran from me.''
-Wow, math makes sense to Cady. Can she transfer some of that to me?
-''Do you have an eraser?'' ''I would love to.'' I love how awkward Cady is.
-Ugh, this song is pretty sappy.
-But it's sweet.
-Calculust. That was really clever.
-So, Cady's the sweet, naive girl.
-''I learned math, so I can learn love.'' My theory is that if you learn math, nothing is impossible.
-I loved this song so much.
''Apex Predator''
-The title sounds great.
-Yay, it's another Barrett song. Is it possible to get a crush on someone just from their voice?
-''Regina George eats steak.'' It's pretty ordinary lyrics, but I love how Barrett sings it.
-Okay, so Regina's the head mean girl.
-''Like a lioness, only with less fur.'' I loved that line.
-Broadway lyrics are so clever.
-Oh, now Cady wants to be popular.
-''And it's kinda fun when she bears her claws. When I'm safe because I'm with the apex predator.''
-''Did I think I'd be protected by my new exotic pet?''
-I love when Barrett and Erika sing together.
-THE ENDING. OH MY GOSH.
-I take it back. I think this one is my favorite.
''What's Wrong With Me''
-So Gretchen's the insecure follower.
-This song is so sad.
-''Mama called me beautiful, don't believe her anymore.''
-''Please don't ignore me.''
-I feel so bad for Gretchen.
-Is she talking about Regina? I think she is.
-I like the music.
-''What's wrong with me? What can I do? What's wrong with me? Could it be you? It's probably me'' sums up Gretchen's character.
-I loved this one, too.
''Stupid With Love [Reprise]''
-So, Cady's crush dated Regina?
-Oh, now they're singing together.
-Their voices sound so nice together.
-''What?'' ''What?'' I loved that.
-Erika is honestly such a great actress. She conveys so much emotion in her songs.
-I didn't like this one as much as the others, but it's still good.
''Sexy''
-''If I could change the world, I'd make it Halloween every day. And make us have world peace. Maybe world peace should be first. Okay, let me start over.''
-''It's like the Internet, only in person, and with candy.''
-Karen is hilarious.
-She's literally singing about how to make Halloween costumes sexy.
-Every line in this is iconic.
-''I give you sexy corn.''
-She's a good singer, too.
-I love the music.
''I can cure sex cancer.''
''Sex cancer doesn't exist.''
''I did it.''
-It must have been so fun to sing this song.
-''This is modern feminism talking. I expect to run the world in shoes I cannot walk in.''
-Karen is just the best.
-I loved this one so much.
''Someone Gets Hurt''
-Ooh, I like the opening music.
-''It's fine for you. It's fine to flirt. It's fiiiine.....'till someone gets hurt.''
-Taylor has such an incredible voice.
-''This is performance. This is all self-defense.''
-''Was I too proud with you? Was I too cold and forbidding? Now, you chose her over me. Are you kidding?''
-Anyone who says ''poor little me'' is a villain.
''You're hot. Why do you even wear a shirt.''
-Did she just say you're mine?
-THE ENDING.
-I love this song. It's amazing.
''Revenge Party''
-Janis is back.
-''Imagine a song with dresses and cake. And singing and dancing and cake.''
-Wow, Janis sounds so aggressive.
-''It's like a party with revenge is what it's like.''
-''And I end up with Aaron when she's gone.''
''Yes, Cady!''
-Damien is still so hilarious.
-''Next we take away Regina's only achievement: being a hot person.''
-I'll say it again, I love Janis' voice.
-Janis is kind of a mean girl in her own way.
-''You might be thinking, 'It's late, we should go. And they ran out of chips.''
-''No, no, no!''
-''Four for Glen Cocoa. You go, Glen Cocoa.''
-''And none for Gretchen Wieners, bye.''
-Gretchen has some serious issues.
-Really, everyone does.
-I. Freaking. Love. This. Song.
''Fearless''
-I love it, already.
-So, Regina's been defeated.
-''You were fetch. So fetch.''
-Cady's gotten a lot more confident.
-Karen and Gretchen seemed kind of scared of Regina.
-I love the chorus.
-Did anyone actually like Regina? Besides Regina.
-This song is kinda sweet.
-Each of the characters kind of have 'themes' if you know what I mean.
-''Fearless. We are fearless.''
-Wow, Regina sounds mad.
-She's kinda scary, actually.
-Wow, Taylor is SUPER good at hitting high notes.
-I love this song, too.
''Stop''
-Damien is really funny, but also right.
-This song sounds like a jazz song.
-''Word vomit.''
-''Cady, we all make bad choices. Damien, tell her about Phillip.''
-Wow, Damien.....did not stop.
-''Some female thing.''
-Wow, Damien's crazy jealous.
-He's also an excellent stalker.
-''I really needed to stop.'' ''He didn't stop.''
-I love the music in this song.
-Damien's definitely my favorite.
-'''Cause I'm actually a human being, and not a prop.''
-Wow, Karen said something smart.
-This song also has that Broadway feel to it.
-Grey Henson is another great actor.
''Honestly, everyone stop.''
-I love this song.
''What's Wrong With Me [Reprise]''
-''I try so hard.''
-Gretchen's more of a victim than a villain.
-''I'm whoever you want. Is that my only appeal?''
-I'm pretty sure this is Regina's mom singing this part.
-''Why can't I do anything right?''
-I love when Gretchen and Mrs. George sing together.
-Again, this song is sad, but sweet.
''Whose House Is This?''
-This song does not seem like something I'd like, but I like it.
-So, this is the song about partying.
-I love the chorus.
''Seriously, whose house is this?''
-This song seems like it'd be fun to do.
-Cady's pretty much the only person being responsible.
-''Oh, wow, that's really strong.''
-I think Karen actually doesn't know whose house it is.
-''Say, thank you, Gretchen.''
-''It's my house now.''
-I liked this song. It's pretty good.
''More Is Better''
-I love the soft, instrumental part.
-Cady's slowly realizing that she's an introvert.
-She's singing this with Aaron, I think.
-'''Cause when you have less, you have more to lose. Wait, that's confusing.''
-Aw, Cady misses seeing the stars.
-All her lies are unraveling now.
-This song is sort of her realizing she's become mean
-She's basically begging Aaron to like her.
-''Looking at this place, I see you trying to erase what is best about yourself just to belong. You say more is always better, but there is less of you than there was before. So, if more is always better, then you should have thought it through a bit more.'' Wow, Aaron.
-Wow, Erika's voice is awesome.
-I loved this song. Another sad one.
''Someone Gets Hurt [Reprise]''
-Fifty seconds of pure awesome.
-''No, it's fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.'' Barrett's voice is incredible.
-And I want my pink shirt.
-This song was great, too.
''World Burn''
-Wow, the instrumental part is kinda creepy.
-''My name is Regina George, and I am a massive deal.''
-This is an amazing villain song.
-Taylor's also at showing emotion in her songs.
-''Hey Cady, how do ya like me now?''
-The chorus is amazing.
-''Because you took me down, but you didn't finish me off.''
-The way Taylor sings Regina George is awesome.
-''And you can quote this: wooooooaahhhhhh!
-''I wanna watch the world burn.''
-The ENDING, OH MY GOSH.
-I love this song so much.
''I'd Rather Be Me''
-''Cause it's happened to me twice.''
-Janis' rebellious personality reminds me of myself.
-''Boys get to fight, we have to share.''
-Barrett's voice is amazing.
-''Cause sometimes what's meant to break you makes you brave.''
-Janis has a pretty sophisticated vocabulary.
-''Everybody has opinions, but it doesn't make 'em true.''
-''I'd rather be me than be with you.''
-Again, I love Barrett's voice.
-THIS SONG IS THE BEST.
''Do This Thing''
-Ooh, this sounds like a song that would be played before a battle.
-Cady sounds confident, but not mean now.
-The rapping part is actually good.
-''Maybe that hater's gonna make fun of you. All you can do is solve the problem in front of you.''
-Wow, they're singing about math again.
-The music is still great, even though the math part takes away from my enjoyment of it.
-After all this, Cady's still sweet.
-''The limit does not exist.''
-''You like that, Merrymo?''
-I did like this song a lot.
''I See Stars''
-''Cheap, fake, easy to break, that's what I used to be.''
-This song is kinda cheesy, but I like it, anyway.
-''Rhinestones don't shine the way you do.''
-I could see Cady being a teacher in the future.
-''You could make diamonds dull, you are so beautiful.''
-This song is so emotional.
-I feel like I've been listening to this soundtrack forever.
-The lyrics are kind of simple, but still good.
-I like this one.
So, those were my thoughts on Mean Girls: The musical. There's a little bit of swearing, but not much.
I'd highly recommend listening to it.
So, yeah, those were my thoughts.
Have you listened to this musical?

Comments

  1. I haven't listened to the musical, yet. But I'm sure it was awesome. And it is really neat to read your thoughts on it, McKayla. :)
