Double Review [aka I review Season Two of Buffy, and Riverdale]

Heya, everyone. Usually I do individual reviews, but today I'm going to review Season Two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Season Two of Riverdale, since I finished them around the same time, and I already reviewed the first season of both.
Let's start with Buffy, shall we?
So, I'll just assume that you've read my review of the first season, and know what the premise is, and who the cast is, and all that. This time we have a different big bad. Two, actually. Spike and Drusilla [you'll get to hear my thoughts on them later].
My Thoughts:
What I Liked:
-The originality. Even though the show is called Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she doesn't just fight vampires. In Season Two, there's a Halloween-themed episode, one that involves fish monsters, one with a werewolf, one that involved the tragic love story of two ghosts, one with a love potion, and one with a creature that sucks the lives out of children, and that's just the tip of the iceberg! So many monsters, so little time.
-The characters
So, I love Buffy, obviously, and she just makes such a good heroine! And then there's Xander, who's hilarious, and reminds me of my sister. And then there's Willow, who's sweet and adorable. I mean, every show needs a cinnamon roll character, right?

And then there's Giles, who's Buffy's Watcher, and he's British and likes books, and he's absolutely the best.
And then there's Cordelia, who is starting to get some character development. I mean, she's still brutally honest, and kind of a brat, but she's kind of sorta starting to get better. For the most part.
And then there's Oz! I love him. He makes such a good addition to the team. I love how Willow tells him that Buffy's the slayer, and he's just like, ''Cool.'' I mean, first of all, he plays the guitar [which I've always wanted to do, but I'm lazy], and he's also just a great character.
-The ships
Ahhh, so many good ships. Willow/Oz is, like, the cutest thing ever, and I ship them so much! I also kind of like Xander/Cordelia. I mean, it didn't start out as a very healthy relationship, but they're getting better, and I like their dynamic.
-Spike and Dru
See, I told you I'd get to them. Spike and Drusilla are an ongoing threat for this season, and I love them. They're chaotic and British and hilarious, and I wish they could've been on for longer. Man, I love these two.
-The fight scenes
Since the show is called Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not Buffy the Vampire Tamer, it makes sense that there'd be lots of action scenes, and fight sequences. There are, and they're absolutely amazing. Always make me want to fight something.
-The fantasy
I love supernatural creatures in fiction, so I love how many different types of monsters Buffy has to fight.
What I Didn't Like
Y'know, I can't think of anything I didn't like. There were some episodes where the plot was weaker than others, but I still liked them.
So, in conclusion, the second season was amazing, and definitely better than the first [and I really liked the first one, too]. I'd definitely recommend that you watch the show, if you haven't already,
My Favorite Episodes: School Hard, Inca Mummy Girl, Halloween, Lie to Me, What's My Line? Part 1 and 2, Ted, Surprise, Phases, Passion, Killed by Death, I Only Have Eyes for You, Becoming Part 1 and 2
Now, I will be reviewing Season Two of Riverdale.
Things are even more intense and drama-filled in Season Two. For starters, there's a serial killer named the Black Hood on the loose. And then there's Veronica's dad, Hiram, who's crazy, and evil. Oh, yeah, and there are rival gangs: The Ghoulies, and the Serpents.
My Thoughts:
What I Liked:
-The characters
Okay, so there were some characters that I totally hated, but I'm talking about the Core Four, Cheryl, Toni, and Kevin [and sometimes Josie, but she also sometimes annoys me]. I mean, Archie's easily misguided, but his dad got shot, so can you really blame him? And then there's Betty, who's so sweet and has that type of face where whenever she's sad it makes you want to hug her. And her happy face? It makes you want to hug her even more.  Betty has the best facial expressions.
See what I mean?
And then there's Veronica, who is an absolute queen, and so stylish and pretty, and is super brave, and makes movie references, and is my second favorite. And Jughead, who's super sarcastic and smart, and gets some great moments this season.
-Also, can we take a moment to appreciate Kevin? He's so nice and funny, and he and Moose deserve the best.
-Toni
I know I mentioned characters already, but Toni is legit one of the best things that has happened to Riverdale. She's a bisexual Southside Serpent, who kicks butt, and has pink hair. What more do you need in a character?
-Also, ships
I'm just.....not a huge Varchie fan. I mean, I don't not ship them, but I just don't like it as much (it's complicated). There were, however, some cute Bughead moments this season, and some cute Koose moments, and then there's Choni.
Choni is the best Riverdale ship of all time. Fight me on this if you want.
Also, Cheryl got some really awesome moments this season. Remember when Cheryl poured blood all over herself to get revenge on Penelope (aka Worst Mom Ever), who sent her to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy to 'cure her of her demons', and told her to get out of the house? What do you do when the Black Hood breaks into your house to murder you? Get out your archery set and shoot him, of course!
-Pretty much any scene where Cheryl does archery. Those are now my new favorite things.
-The Black Hood storyline in general. I was in suspense wondering who it was the whole time. AND THAT PLOT TWIST??  Ahh, so good!
-Also, the musical episode.
Sure, it wasn't quite as good as Broadway or Off-Broadway, but still. It was a musical episode. A MUSICAL EPISODE, PEOPLE. Musical episodes are the best. Fight me on this. I've never even heard of Carrie: The Musical, but I like the songs [or, at least, the Riverdale version. I've never listened to the original].
What I Didn't Like
Some stuff in this season just felt a little overdramatized. Just my personal opinion,
Also, the whole Chic story. *shudders* Chic is just so creepy, and ew, I don't like him. And Nick St. Clair. That kid is a major jerk. I wanted to punch him everytime
he was onscreen.
Also, certain characters made some really stupid decisions (although they ARE sixteen, so I can forgive them).
My Favorite Episodes: A Kiss Before Dying, The Watcher in the Woods, The Town that Dreaded Sundown, When a Stranger Calls, Tales from the Darkside, Silent Night Deadly Night, The Wrestler, There Will Be Blood, The Noose Tightens, A Night to Remember, Prisoners, Judgement Night, Brave New World
So, that's all I have for you today. If you've seen either of these shows, tell me if you liked them, or didn't like them. What were your favorite episodes?

  3. So glad you loved season 2 of Buffy. Oz and Spike are some of my favorites.
Oz/Willow especially are just too cute, but I should warn you to not get to attached to that pairing.
I still might finish Riverdale someday. I think I stopped halfway through season 2

  4. Yes, it's a really great show. They're both fantastic characters.
I've learned not to get too attached to ANY pairing or character in a Joss Whedon show 'cause you never know what will happen.
Ooh, Season Two is pretty good, in my opinion, but it starts to get REALLY weird in Season Three. I mean, I still like it, but it's definitely not everyone's thing.
