Riverdale Season One Review
Hi, everybody! I just recently finished Season One of Riverdale. It's my sister's favorite show, and she recommended it to me, and I decided to give it a shot. I really liked it, so I decided to review it.
Riverdale was created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Ashleigh Murray, and Casey Cott.
Summary: When a new school year starts, the town of Riverdale is still reeling from Jason Blossom's drowning, when it turns out that it might not have been so accidental. Mystery, drama, secrets and lies continue as Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica rush to discover who killed Jason Blossom.
My Thoughts: Well, I have a lot of thoughts about this show [most of them good,]. It's based on the Archie comics, which I have never read, so if you're looking for a comparison, I'm the wrong girl to ask. If you're just looking for opinions about the show, then I have plenty of those.
What I Liked
-The characters
This is one of those shows where nobody is really nice, and though there are some characters I wouldn't mind strangling *cough* *cough* Penelope, I really liked most of them. They were all interesting.
-The core four
The core four refers to the four main characters on the show [Archie, Betty, Jughead, Veronica], and, ahhhh, I love them all! They have such a sweet friendships. I mean, they have two of the most iconic duos of all time. What more can you ask for??? And they perfectly represent the four Hogwarts houses, in my humble opinion.
Great. Now I want milkshakes.-Cheryl deserves an honorable mention, too. The girl is a queeeeennnn!
-Also, the costumes are so great. Especially Betty's, Veronica's, and Cheryl's. I kind of want to raid these girl's closets, and borrow everything. Especially Veronica's dress from the pilot.
-The mystery
Riverdale is a character-driven drama, but the ongoing mystery of who killed Jason Blossom is so good. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It's so intriguing, and I just wanted to wrap myself up in a blanket and binge-watch the entire season. It's just sooooo goooddddd!
-The drama
Fact: I love emotionally intense stories. Fact: Riverdale is emotionally intense. There's murder, gangs, and all other kinds of crimes, plus so much emotionally intense scenes for all the characters, and, ahhhh, I love it.
-The aesthetic
This show does aesthetics really well. Thornhill is so dark and gloomy, and Betty's room is so light and cheerful-looking, and then there's Pop's. I think they did a really good job with this.
-Pop's
Just I love everything about that diner. It's so cozy and aesthetic, and I need the town where I live to get one ASAP. It's the core four's hangout, and can you imagine hanging out somewhere with hamburgers and fries and *gasp* milkshakes? That would be awesome.
What I Didn't Like:
Oooh, there wasn't a whole lot I didn't like [what'd I tell ya? I'm a truly awful critic], but finding out who Jason's murderer was is kind of a letdown. I don't know if this is just me, but I felt like they could've made it more interesting.
Also, Archie/Miss Grundy was honestly just really weird and creepy and just ew. I'm glad they treated it as wrong, and that it ended pretty quickly.
Also, there were times where it just felt too dramatic. I love drama as much as the next person, but occasionally it felt like too much.
It was still really good, though.
Characters
Ah, yes, Archie Andrews, the titular character of the comics. Archie's a nice guy, a football player, and a musician. I'm not sure how I feel about him yet. He's sweet, and he's brave, but he didn't stand out to me all that much [which is sad since he's my fellow Gryffindor]. I did like him, and I think he has way too many haters, but he's not my favorite.
Betty Cooper is my sister's favorite, and I can see why. She's sweet, super smart [a straight-A student, and a journalist], and a little bit shy. She also has a dark side, which kind of makes her more interesting, if you ask me. I really liked Betty. She's a sweetheart, and her friendship with Veronica is the best. Also, let's talk about Betty's wardrobe. The flats, the ponytails, the sweaters. She has a very preppy-casual way of dressing, and I love it. She's a great character, in general, and I like her.
Veronica Lodge is my personal favorite [seriously, why do people hate her? What has she done to deserve it?]. She's the new girl in town, and I love the differences between her and Betty. It makes for a more interesting dynamic between them. Also, Veronica references movies and literature a lot, which makes me so happy. It's hard to explain her personality, but I like it. She's a little more outgoing and daring than Betty is. Also, her comebacks are THE BEST. And she's super fashionable, and manages to incorporate pearls into every outfit.
Jughead Jones isn't really in it at first, so I wasn't a big fan of him then, but then they started to develop his character and personality more, and he's one of my favorites now. He's sarcastic, he's a writer [A writer as a main character on a show! What more could you ask for?], he's Archie's best friend, he and Betty solve mysteries together, and he always wears his crown beanie. That pretty much sums him up. He's a really good character, and I really like him.
Cheryl Blossom is Jason's twin sister, and is the school's resident queen bee. Y'know, the Heather Chandler/Regina George/Cordelia Chase type? Cheryl's insults are LEGENDARY, she knows how to rock a spider brooch as an accessory, and she's just so complex and interesting and entertaining. Cheryl is my other favorite, if you couldn't tell by now. Like I said, she's a queeennn.
Kevin Keller isn't really in it as much, but I had to include him, because I love him. At first, he kinda seems like the stereotypical gay best friend, but he's sooooo lovable, and so sweet [but tough], and funny. Kevin deserves the very best. *nods*
Overall, it was pretty good, and I'm glad I watched it.
So, those were my thoughts on Riverdale. Bye for now
Have you seen Riverdale? Do you want to? If you have, favorite character?
A friend has been telling me to watch this, so I might now after reading your review!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know the feeling. My sister's been telling me to watch it for a long time. It's a little dark and there's some content, but it's pretty good, I think.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Riverdale but I have heard things about it, and have watched the youtube channel of the actor who plays Cheryl . It's also cool that they have a writer main character. :D
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to read your review,
-Quinley
Yeah, it was made in 2017 (I think), so it's pretty well-known.
ReplyDeleteOh, cool. My sister's shown me a couple of her videos. She seems like a cool person.
Exactly! Jughead's out there making us look cool.
Aw, thanks, Quinley.
I really like the noir vibe they had in the first season. Jughead was my favorite, I'm a sucker for that type of character.
ReplyDeleteMe too. It was so cool.
ReplyDeleteOooohhh, Jughead, he's the best.
That's me. I'm your sister. I am so glad you like Riverdale!!! *Squeals with excitment*
ReplyDeleteYup, you are. XD. Yayyy, Riverdale!
