January Recap

The first month of 2021 is officially over. It was a pretty good month for me. How was it for everyone else?
Books I Read In January

Okay, was anyone else obsessed with these books? My sister and I were going through our old books, and decided to reread some of them. Since they're middle-grade, the writing is pretty simple, but they're good.

So, this was a reread. I actually liked it better this time. It's a pretty sweet contemporary/romance, but it's not fluffy.

This was such a fun MG fantasy book. It reminded me of the Wings of Fire series.

Okay, this might be my favorite Agatha Christie book. It's so good, and the whole killing people off one by one thing is intriguing. I promise I'm not a psychopath. Please don't call the cops.

This was a play I read for school. It was pretty good. I mean, it's a Greek play, so there's lots of murder and tragedy, but I really liked it.

Oh, look, guess who decided to reread this book again after making a blog post about it [hint: It's me]? I've reviewed it before, and I've made a list of reasons why I like it, so I won't say much other than that it needs a Netflix adaptation ASAP.

I read this whole series two years ago, I think. Idk why I decided to reread this in the winter, but I did. *shrugs* They're good books. I relate to Bridget more than I should.
Movies/Shows I Watched in January
This was my sister's choice. She's a huge fan of history [and especially Marie Antoinette]. I don't know nearly as much about her as Abigail does, so I couldn't tell you if it was historically accurate or not. I liked it, but it wasn't my favorite movie. The actors all did a good job, and the aesthetic is gorgeous.
This was my second time seeing Beetlejuice. I just.....really needed to see a Tim Burton movie that day. Here is the link to my review.
Such a fun movie! I've already reviewed it on here, so, if you're interested, you should be able to find it pretty easily.

Ahhhh, Inkheart! This was such a fun movie, and an absolute must-see for anyone who loves books [seriously, all the bookishness in this movie nearly killed me. But in a good way].
Season Five. I really like it so far. It's not as good as the first two seasons, but it's good. What do you guys think of it?

Season Five, and part of Season Six. I have lots of thoughts about it, so here they are in a not-so-organized way. Also, minor spoilers, so read at your own risk:
-Riley was super annoying, and I'm glad he left
-We need more Anya appreciation. She's so underrated.
#AnyaJenkinsAppreciation.
-Tara is an adorable, smol cinnamon roll.
-Dawn isn't as annoying as everyone says she is.
-Once More, With Feeling is an absolutely fantastic episode, and all of the cast are super talented singers. Anthony Stewart Head, and Amber Benson had the best voices, I think, but everyone did a good job. I've had the songs on repeat for awhile now. What's everyone's favorite song?
-Tabula Rasa is a good episode, too.
-Glory and the Trio are way better villains than Adam.

I rewatched a bunch of Season Two and Three. Mostly for Santana and Brittany.

The entire series [there's only, like, thirty episodes, so don't think that I spend all my time watching TV]. It wasn't perfect, but it was really good.

Season One and part of Season Two. This show is hysterical. I highly recommend it. Here are a few highlights of what I've seen so far:
-Jack Black being in an episode
-Jeff participating in a pool class, and then refusing to play because he'd have to wear shorts, and then him and the teacher having this very competitive [and hilarious] pool game.
-The episode with Jeff, Abed and Annie taking pottery class, and Pierce, Troy, Shirley, and Britta taking sailing class.
-The mafia movie parody episode that involves chicken fingers.
-The paintball episode.
-When the anthropology teacher tried to strangle Jeff.
-The space simulator episode.
-The Halloween episode. It's hilarious.
-The episode with the 'magic' trampoline.
This show is really, really good. I highly recommend it, if you're in need of something funny to watch.
Music of January
Lots of music. So much music. I listened to music almost constantly. Here's a few songs I've been listening to a lot lately:
-Lots of musicals. If you've been reading my blog for a fraction of a second awhile, you probably know I love musicals. My favorites are Newsies, Hamilton, Heathers, Mean Girls, Beetlejuice, Bring It On, Dear Evan Hansen, and Waitress. *nods* Lots of songs from those.
-''Rainbow'' and ''Cool Girl'' by Dodie Clark.
-''Castle'', ''Control'' and ''Gasoline'' by Halsey. I think Badlands is still my favorite album of hers, though I like most of them.
-''Betty'' by Taylor Swift.
Ok, to be fair, I listened to lots of Folklore and Evermore, but this was at a whole different level. I obsessively binge-listened to it. Probably doesn't help that it fits the relationship between the two MCs in the story I'm writing [minus the cheating]. And, also, it's a great song.
-Also, ''Willow.'' That song is great.
"Pretty Girl", "Sleepover" and "Girls Like Girls" by Hayley Kiyoko. Highly recommend her music. It speaks to my soul.
-The ''Once More, With Feeling'' soundtrack. This consisted of ''Under Your Spell'', ''Standing'', ''Rest in Peace'', ''Something To Sing About'', ''I've Got A Theory'', ''I'll Never Tell'' and ''Going Through the Motions.''
January Events
-I mean, there's COVID, so it's not like I've been able to go anywhere. I'm getting pretty antsy about it, but it's okay.
-Lots of fandom stuff. I am under the impression that fandoms are keeping me sane right now. Which is scary, if you think about it.
-I did a lot of writing this month. I'm being surprised by my current writing project a lot. It's a crossover fanfiction, first of all, and I didn't think I'd write fanfiction again. It also started as a short story satire, and now it's nearly 100 pages, and there's been a significant amount of character development and I've sufficiently tortured everyone, so it's definitely taken a different turn from how I originally imagined it.
-I did a lot of rollerskating. It was fun, and I'd like to think I improved at least a little bit.
-We played board games and card games a lot. It was very fun. I mean, maybe 'a lot' is a bit of an exaggeration, but it was a fair amount.
That's pretty much all. It was a fairly chill month.
Happy February, everyone!

  1. The Dear America books are so fun! I read so many when I was younger, and still own two that I never got around to. One of these days. I also haven't read any of the three that you listed.

Spontaneous writing like that is so awesome! 100 pages? That's fantastic! I hope that you continue having a great time with it.

    1. Yeah the Dear America ones are fun, I never really paid that much attention to them until one time I got sick and read all of the ones we had at home 😅

    2. They are! My library had a large selection of them, so I've read most of them, I think.

  7. And Then There Were None is so good! I read it for the first time last November and it was actually the first Agatha Christie book I've ever read.

Inkheart! I should rewatch that at some point, it's been quite awhile since I've seen it.
