Musical Theater Tag
I am obsessed with musicals. I have three playlists filled with songs from musicals, for example. I saw this tag on Loren's blog and thought that I should do the tag. Y'know, after the jumping around because it's a freaking tag about musicals.
Anywayyyy, let's get on with the actual post.
When did you start liking the performing arts?
That's hard to say. I first started listening to musicals sometime in spring 2019, but I think it really started when I first watched Descendants. I also didn't start getting really into it until last fall. Like I said, it's kind of hard to explain.
Ever been in a musical?
Yup. I've been in a drama class musical, and my sisters and I have put on a few.
What was the first musical you listened to?
Mean Girls! I even remember what the first song I heard was----Apex Predator. I don't really remember where I heard it from, but I'm so glad I did. It's still one of my favorite musicals.
What musicals are you dying to see?
All of them. That's probably a terrible answer, but, honestly, I'd kill to see any of these shows [probably not the best joke to make, since one of my favorite musicals is Heathers and we all know how that ends, but whatever].
If you could play any female character in a musical who would you be and why?
Character as in one? Sorry, that's not happening. Here is a list of ten female characters I'd like to play [*cough* shameless self-promotion *cough*].
Here's a random Veronica Sawyer GIF just because.
If you could play any male character in a musical who would you play and why?
Damian from Mean Girls.
He's hilarious, he sings lead in Stop, and I just think he would be a lot of fun to play.
What musical character are you most like?
*dramatic sigh* I don't knowww. I'm bad at describing myself. According to my sister, I'm like Janis from Mean Girls.
She also thinks I'm like Veronica from Heathers, and I think that I'm maybe a little bit like Angelica from Hamilton. You guys tell me if that's an accurate description of me.
What showtune describes your life?
I'd Rather Be Me. It's sung by Janis [I know. Shocking], and it's basically about being yourself, but not in a cheesy way, and with lots of sass.
What do you think is the most underrated musical?
Three words: Bring. It. On.
I just don't hear a lot of people talk about it, which is crazy 'cause it's a Lin-Manuel Miranda musical and has Taylor Louderman, Kate Rockwell, and Elle McLemore in it, so I have no idea why it isn't super famous????
Overrated musical?
*raises shield* Okay, so everybody here will probably hate me for this, but I've never been that fond of The Sound of Music.
I don't hate it or anything, and I do really like the music, but it's just never interested me that much.
*whispers* Is the angry mob gone? What musical makes you cry?
Dear Evan Hansen. I cry every time I listen to Words Fail. Every. Single. Time.
This musical has broken my heart about, oh, I don't know, FIFTY MILLION TIMES/
What musicals make you laugh?Beetlejuice, Mean Girls, Heathers, and Bring It On have all made me laugh at some point, so....., all of those.
At this point I'm just trying to add as many GIFs from my favorites as possible. Now you know.
Who's your musical theater crush?
Just one? There's so many. Probably Barrett Wilbert Weed, though.
*heart eyes* She's, like, really pretty. Or should I say beautiful?
Are there any musicals you saw and hated?
I've seen a grand total of one musical in my entire life [live, I mean. Of course I've seen movie musicals], and that was really good, so I don't really have an answer to this question.
Favorite film adaptation of a musical?
Well, um, I don't really have one. Mean Girls, Beetlejuice and Heathers were all originally movies that I like [and semi-obsessively quote], so let's go with those.
What musical do you want to see as a film?
Um, a Six movie would be pretty great. I'm not sure why, but that's the first thing that popped into my head.
Any movie or book that you think should be turned into a musical?
I have given way more thought to this than I should have, and have come up with three movies that---if adapted well would probably make great musicals.
The Breakfast Club: The Musical
Edward Scissorhands: The Musical
The Princess Diaries: The Musical
List all of your favorite musicals:
*clears throat*
Mean Girls
Heathers
Waitress
Six
Beetlejuice
Hamilton
Newsies
Hadestown
Spring Awakening, kind of. I've heard, like, two songs from it, but I like it so far.
Wicked
Bring It On
Dear Evan Hansen
Out of those, which is your all-time favorite musical?
*weird strangled sound*
YOU EXPECT ME TO PICK ONE?????? I am so, so, so, so, so bad at picking favorites. I can't possibly pick a favorite musical. It is scientifically impossible.
If you like musicals, you can do the tag.
I'm not picking anyone specifically.
Have a good day, and listen to all of these, so we can nerd out together.
What are your favorite musicals? Which musical characters do I remind you of? Which musical characters do you think you're most like? What are some musicals that you think I would like?
I had fun reading this! I should listen to/watch more musicals. I love how passionate you are about them!
ReplyDeleteSome personal favourites are Hadestown (which is probably my current favourite), Phantom of the Opera (Sierra Boggess, Ramin Karimloo, Hadley Fraser version), DEH, Newsies.
Phantom of the Opera really started my discovery of fandoms, musicals, a bunch of things really so that one has always felt like a big deal. If my mom only knew the monster she would create when she showed it to me XD Ironically I didn't want to watch it originally because I thought it was going to be 3 hours of someone singing opera in a different language and 14 year old me just wasn't interested.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Sound of Music either. I don't hate it, it's just not quite my personal preference either. Although the songs are forever stuck in my head.
Thanks! Yeah, musicals tend to bring out my obsessive side. I highly recommend pretty much all of the ones on my 'favorites' list, although taste is subjective, so you might like some of them and you might not like others.
ReplyDeleteHadestown, DEH, and Newsies are all some of my personal favorites, too. I've been meaning to listen to Phantom of the Opera.
Same. It's not that I hate it, I just have never been able to understand why everybody seems to love it. The songs are super catchy, so they got stuck in my head a lot.
I love that Descendants was one of your introductions! I've been listening to musicals for as long as I can remember because my family watches a lot of old films.
ReplyDeleteMy sisters LOVE The Sound of Music and when we were younger they watched it all. The. Time. So, because of that I always say that I don't like it. I just am burned out.
DEH makes me cry, too. Did you know that they're making a movie of it?
In some ways (not in all) you remind me of Red from Into the Woods.
Yeah, it was a great way to get into musicals!
ReplyDeleteGetting burned out is the worst. I get that. My siblings have things they love that I'm not that into, so then I get tired of it. Of course I probably do the same thing.
It's so sad, but so good. No, I didn't! That's exciting.
Ooh, I've been meaning to listen to Into the Woods.
You picked such good ones. I love Dear Evan Hansen and Heathers.
ReplyDeleteHadestown is amazing but sad.
Even though I don't love The Sound of Music I always find myself singing it. XD
Thanks! Those three are great (though Hadestown is really sad).
ReplyDeleteThe songs always get stuck in my head. They're way too catchy.
Wicked is such a good musical. :) And that's cool that you acted in a musical, it sounds like it was fun. :)
