Glee Review

'Ello, friends! Look who's doing another review?
So, I think I reviewed the first season of Glee back when I first watched it, but I haven't reviewed the rest of the seasons which is an absolute travesty
This review may or may not be because I have a few Glee posts planned for the future.
Creators: Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk
Cast: Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Chris Colfer. Jane Lynch, Naya Rivera, Cory Monteith, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, Chord Overstreet, Harry Shum Jr., Dianna Agron, and Jayma Mays.
Genres: Musical, Drama, Comedy
Rating: TV-14
Summary: A group of ambitious misfits try to escape the harsh realities of high school by joining a glee club headed by a passionate Spanish teacher.
My Thoughts:

Glee is one of those shows that most people seem to either love or hate, so I'm definitely not recommending it to everyone. If you're looking for shows with more diversity or you like musicals or teen comedy/dramas or stories about underdogs [or, heck, all of them] or you simply want to see something silly and lighthearted, then I recommend Glee. I completely understand and respect why some people don't really like it. Okay, that's all I have to say.
What I Liked:
-The music!
Since it's a musical show there are lots of covers of great songs [everything from classic rock to showtunes], and everyone is so talented. And it's not just the singing, they're all pretty good dancers, too [especially Heather Morris and Harry Shum. Jr]. I have a whole playlist just with Glee songs, and, even if you're not into the show, I highly recommend listening to the music.
-The diversity
For example, Artie uses a wheelchair, Tina and Mike are Asian, Mercedes is black, Rachel and Puck are Jewish, Santana is Hispanic and a lesbian, Brittany is bisexual, and Kurt and Blaine are both gay.
-[Most of] the characters
Are you shocked this wasn't the first thing I mentioned? Yeah, me too.
I love a good portion of the main characters, and like or at least appreciate most of the rest of them. Here's where I mention my very favorites:
Kurt:
Kurt Hummel is just everything. He's such a sweetheart, and he's also really brave, which I admire. I also admire his sense of style, and, most of all, how he was always true to himself, no matter how hard that was. Also, he's so confident, and I love that. I could talk about him all day, but I'll leave it with Kurt is an icon.
Santana:
Santana had, by far, the best character arc, and I would honestly almost recommend the show just for her. I love how complex she is. She's snarky and has killer insults, and she has moments where she's really mean and then she has moments of genuine vulnerability. Also, #BrittanaForever.
Brittany:
Brittany is just so sweet that you can't help but love her. She can be a little bit ditzy, and is really eccentric, which leads to some great lines [''Did you know that dolphins are just gay sharks?'']. I also love how she really brings out Santana's sweet side, and the two of them have some really great chemistry.
Blaine:
He's so calm and so sweet, and I love him! I especially liked him in Season Two. He just seems like a fun guy to hang out with. I don't want to say much more because of spoilers.
Mercedes:
Can I just say that I love her and Kurt's friendship? Also, she's so talented, and she has some really great lines, too. I wish we could've gotten more storylines with her.
Quinn:
Quinn had such a good character arc in Season One, and I'll forever be salty that they didn't use her as much as they should've. She's such an interesting character, and deserved better.
Mike:
He's awesome and a great dancer. 'Nuff said.
Sue:
Okay, I don't really like her, but she's really over-the-top and entertaining, and super fun to watch.
-The ships were really good, too. There were a few that I didn't like all that much, but, for the most part, they were really good.
-Also, I love just how fun and goofy it is. It's kind of ridiculous sometimes, but in a good way.
What I Didn't Like:
-Season Six is really bad, and Seasons Four and Five weren't nearly as good as the earlier seasons. I'd describe Seasons 1-3 as silly and quirky, but still a fun show, Seasons 4-5 are fine, but not as good, and Season Six is just....really bad.
-Some of the characters
While I like [or at least tolerate] most of the characters there are two that I just can't stand: Puck and Rachel.
Puck was just kind of a jerk, and he didn't ever really apologize for it, so that really rubbed me the wrong way. I think I could've liked him if he'd had a good redemption arc, but he didn't, so I didn't like him.
And Rachel? There were a few things I admired about her [like her ambition and how hardworking she was], but she was just so entitled and selfish, and kept making things all about her, which really bugged me.
-Again, some of the inconsistency just drives me nuts. There are so many plotlines that were started but never finished, or felt rushed, and that really annoyed me.
Content: Some language, some mentions of sex, and some serious topics. It's rated TV-14, and I think that fits it pretty well.
So, overall, I really liked Glee, although there are some things I would change, and it's not the best show I've ever watched. I'd say that it's a fun show, as long as you don't take it too seriously.
So, let's talk. Have you seen Glee? If you have, what was your favorite season? Favorite characters?
Until Next Time,

  1. I love the actress who plays Quinn, sad that they didn't use her more, she's so good!

  2. I love her, too! I wish she could've had a bigger role after Season One. She had so much potential as a character.

  3. I haven't actually seen Glee but I am curious to know what the context of them all throwing coffee (or whatever it is) at the camera is XD

  4. It's kind of a long story. So, basically, the mean kids throw slushies at them, and Mr. Schuester [that's the teacher] remarks one time while everyone's drinking slushies that he can't imagine being hit with one of these, so then he agrees to let the kids throw them at him.

  5. My sister really likes this show and I watched a lot of it with a friend when it first came out but don't remember anything except a Britney Spears song. Its annoying that the latter seasons weren't as good as the first few. Good review!

  6. That's cool that your sister's a Glee fan. Lots of their Britney Spears covers are super catchy.
Yeah. It's disappointing, but it happens with lots of shows. Thanks!
