Recommending Media Based On Your Favorite Jane Austen Book

Hello everyone! I have a question for you: Are you a Jane Austen fan? If so, I thought I'd give you some recommendations based on your favorite Jane Austen book. You don't have to have read all of her books-----or even any of them------if you like a movie adaptation, that's totally cool, too. Or, even if you're not an Austen fan, you could just take this as a list of recommendations. So, let's get started.
Sense and Sensibility
If you're a fan of Sense and Sensibility, I assume that you really like stories with sisters since Elinor and Marianne's relationship is a big part of the book. I also assume that you're very character-driven and relationship driven, and you don't mind stories being a tiny bit preachy. So, for you, I'd recommend......
Now, if you're into classic literature, you've probably already read this one, but, if you haven't, I'd recommend it. It's one of the most famous sister stories, and the relationships between them is the best part of the book.
This is another book with lots of great sisterly relationships, but it's even more lighthearted than Little Women. It's a fun, summery middle-grade book with a variety of quirky characters, and I cannot recommend it enough. Regardless of how old you are, I think it's a great book.
Yes, I know there's a bit of a tonal shift between The Penderwicks and Charmed, but Charmed does have a strong focus on sisterly relationships [which, yes, is the best part of the show], and it's just very relationship-driven, in general. Yes, it can be kind of cheesy with terrible special effects, but it's a fun show.
While it does involve witches, it's not really scary at all, so if you're not into horror, you won't be scared by it.
And, speaking of witches, may I recommend.....
The Witches of Echo Park isn't focused on sisters, but it is focused a lot on female friendships and relationships in general, so S&S fans [and Charmed fans, now that I think about it] might like this one. It is a lot more ''adult'' than most of the things on this list [not too much, but there is quite a bit of language, and a sex scene in the first book, so just be careful].
Pride and Prejudice
If P&P is your favorite Jane Austen book, you're probably into three things in storytelling: strong female characters, enemies to lovers and extremely witty dialogue. So, for you, I would recommend.......
Yes, 10 Things I Hate About You is a retelling of Shakespeare's The Taming of The Shrew, but I think a lot of P&P fans would like it. The lead female character, Kat, is fiery, intelligent and feminist, and I think a lot of Elizabeth Bennet fans would really like her. Both main characters develop a lot and become better people------much like Pride and Prejudice. And the dialogue is just great. You really should watch it.
Yes, I am well aware that there are several, er, problematic aspects to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not to mention all of the Joss Whedon stuff, but it have a lot of things that I think P&P fans would like. First of all, there are absolutely strong female characters------loads of them, in fact, although Buffy is probably the best example. It's also a very witty show, and there are a few couples [I won't say who they are because spoilers, but if you've watched the show, you know who I am] who definitely fall into the enemies to lovers category.
Emma
If you really like Emma, you probably like morally grey characters [yes, Katie Hanna and I had a whole conversation about why Emma is a morally grey character] with good character development. You probably also like comedies, since Emma is one of Jane Austen's funniest books. So, for you, I'd recommend.....
Yes, this is a bit of a jump, but all of the Leverage characters are criminals, so I think they count as morally grey, and all of them develop really well over the course of the show, and it's very witty and funny., so I think a lot of Emma fans would like it.
This one isn't much of a comedy, but it does have an amazing morally grey lead character, who does have amazing character development, If you like thrillers or slightly darker stories, then I think you might really like this one.
While the hero of The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue isn't really an anti-hero, wow, he makes a lot of bad decisions. This book has a lot of great character development, and it is incredibly witty and hilarious.
Mansfield Park
Mansfield Park is one of Jane Austen's more underrated novels. If you like this one, I assume you like pain.
Juuuuust kidding. If you're a Mansfield Park fan, I assume that you like kind heroines with quiet strength and slightly more serious story. For all of you Mansfield Park fans, I'll recommend.....
I'm pretty sure that most of you have already seen this movie, but Fanny Price reminds me a lot of Cinderella-----they're both kind, quiet and have terrible families, but end up getting a happy ending. I haven't watched this movie in years, but I remember it being a good adaptation [plus the dress that she wears is gorgeous].
Eliza is a very shy, anxious girl, so, in that way, she reminds me of Fanny. Some of her family situation-----and her love interest's family situation is a little......shall we say complicated, which is similar to Mansfield Park. My absolute favorite part of this book is the art, which I think is really cool, so, if you're an artist, I'd especially recommend this to you.
Northanger Abbey
If you're an NA fan, you're either really into gothic novels or adventure stories, or you're super into satire. Since I don't know exactly what type of NA fan you are, I'll recommend some of both.
This one is a classic for a reason. It has vampires and adventure and spooky stuff and a very Gothic vibe to it that I feel like Northanger Abbey fans would like. It's definitely not for everyone, but it's worth a try.
This one is definitely an adventure movie with a strong focus on romance and lots of quirky characters. I feel like that's something that would appeal to most Northanger Abbey fans. Plus, it's very funny. It's a great movie and I highly recommend it.
Persuasion
Persuasion is another one with a quiet-yet-strong main character, but this one has the edition of a really slow burn romance. I haven't read or watched very much that's too similar to that, but I'll try.
Okay, so this one is quite a bit different than Persuasion, but there are a ton of slow burn romances on this show, so you might like it if you're into crime shows.

Again, slow-burn romance. Do I need to explain it more? I mean, the main character, Ari, isn't particularly shy, but I'm having trouble thinking of more quiet characters.

So, I'm not sure if I really want to recommend this one because, on one hand, I think Jane is a great character [and she's a great example of quiet strength], and I like Charlotte Bronte's writing style, but I loathe Mr. Rochester so much [he knocks down the rating at least a star or two], and their relationship is just so....icky, so I can't fully recommend it.
So, I hope this was a helpful or fun post to read. Have you read any of these books or watched any of these shows?
