January Recap

Image
The first month of the new year is over. It was a pretty good month for me. How was it for you?  What I Read in January What I Watched in January I watched Season One of both the reboot and original Charmed, and, yes, I have a comparison post coming up. I also re-watched a little Buffy and some Miss Fisher with my mom and sister. What I Did in January -I finished the first round of edits for my book! Huzzah! It was a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it, and now I'm one step closer to publishing it!  -My parents got to go on a vacation, which meant that my sisters and I had to take care of the house alone for a few days. We didn't burn the house down, so I think we did a pretty good job.  -I also got to do lots of martial arts this month. It's such a fun class and I'm really happy to be able to do it.  -Back in December, my family's dog, Titan, and the neighbor's dog had puppies, and we got to pick out one to keep. His name is Rocky and he's an adora...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Book Tag

Image
'Ello there, friends!  In case you didn't know, I love books, and I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I was destined to do this tag.  I found this tag on  this blog . The Questions Buffy-A Character Who Leads A Double Life Buffy is just such an icon and a fantastically written character. She's a great example of a chosen one character and she's just such a strong person [and not just because of her super strength], plus she's a fashion icon. It's been forever since I read it, but I remember the main character in the Rebel Magisters book led a double life.  Xander-A Book With A Character Who Mostly Just Provides Comic Relief I don't think that Xander just provides comic relief. He does a lot of important things for the plot. He's not my favorite but I definitely enjoy his role as the heart of the Scoobies, as well as being one of the few character without any type of magical skill or super strength.  The first person I thought of was Leo Valdez from the ...

Book vs Movie: Always and Forever, Lara Jean

Image
Hello again, and welcome to the last installment of my To All the Boys I've Loved Before book/movie comparison. The Book My Thoughts: This book was good. It wasn't as good as the first one, but I did enjoy it overall.  I liked the theme of change in this book. It really hit me hard in a lot of places. It felt a tad more melancholy than the previous two books in the series, but it was sweet and hopeful, too. I feel like a lot of the characters have matured in this book-----Kitty especially, though she's still a troublemaker. Again, can I just say how much I love Kitty? She's one of the best parts in all of the To All The Boys I've Loved Before books. I love the wedding subplot, as well as pretty much anything with Trina in this book. I liked that Margot had a fairly big role in this one. She was annoying at first, but she had a really good character arc, so I can't complain too much. I do feel like Peter and Lara Jean could have communicated better, but they do ...

Book Review: The Witches of Echo Park

Image
Hello! It's been awhile since I've done a book review, so here I am.  Author: Amber Benson Length: 306 pages Genres: Urban Fantasy Content Warnings: There's some language [not a lot, but it does include the f-word], two sex scenes, and some violence [not a lot, just a few fight scenes]. Trigger Warnings: The only thing I can think of is child abuse in a flashback. Summary: When Lyse MacAllister's great-aunt, Eleanora, the woman who raised her, becomes deathly ill, Lyse puts her comfortable life in Georgia on hold to rush back to Los Angeles. And once she returns to Echo Park, Lyse discovers her great-aunt has been keeping secrets-----extraordinary secrets----from her.  Not only is Lyse heir to Eleanora's Victorian estate: she is also expected to take her great-aunt's place in the Echo Park coven of witches. But to accept her destiny means to place herself in deadly peril-for the world of magic is under siege, and the battle the witches now fight may be their la...

Magical realism. I think I like it because well-written magical realism combines real-world problems with magical ones, and I like to see how magic works in our world. What is your favorite book series? And why? Ooh, I have a lot of favorite book series. At the moment, The Raven Cycle might be my favorite.  I really like Maggie Stiefvater's writing style, and I adore the setting and all of the main characters, as well as most of the supporting characters.
